Petey

Sometimes there is no accounting for the way the Boxer brain works. Sometimes it's funny and mostly it just makes us love them more. Ask Petey's mom.

Miss Petey, our rescue boxer mix girl, is afraid of the oven.  Yes it is all my fault as I have set off the smoke alarm a few times in the past when I use the broiler setting.  I have not done that in a long time and I am trying to get her not to be afraid every time I turn on the oven. Lately I have not allowed her to "hide" by the back door in an effort to show her there is nothing to fear.  However she still tries to get in as small an area as possible and, last time, I found her crammed into our Chihuahua's little bed.
Back in December we adopted another little Chihuahua we named Jack.  He came to rescue as part of a hoarding case in which an old man had 27 dogs in his house.  He was never adopted from animal control due to being extremely timid and unsocialized.  He was supposed to be euthanized but the guy with animal control took a liking to him and begged Doggie Paws Rescue to take him.  That is where we found and adopted him.  I like hard luck cases especially those that no one else wants.  Jack has come a long way since we adopted him but I really think it is because of Miss Petey.  As you can see he just loves her and wants to be near her as much as she will let him.

  1. That is so cute - the picture of Petey in Jacks bed is priceless. And it is so sweet that they sleep together.

    Thanks for sharing.

  3. Petey is gorgeous! And ... there's just no accounting for their fears and phobias. As far as I'm concerned, she can be afraid of the oven all she wants ... I am, too! (At least that's how I explain that I don't ever use my oven). ☺

  6. So funny to see Petey stuffed into that tiny little bed; and so sweet to see her snuggled up with Jack on the big one... Maybe Jack was trying to take it over in case Petey decided she liked his bed the best!

  9. She is a beauty and Jack is so little and obviously loves his big sister. Love the pose, too.
