The BML can be a bit impatient to see the Boxer babies and I know one of our members has been asked a few times for a photo. She sent to me:
The black brat behind Shilo is Lakota our oldest Boston/Pug. Pink bed in
background is a small dog bed and Shilo thinks she is small enough to
lay in it. The last couple of days her name has been Trouble, she's four months old and starting to come into her own.

The Brindle in the Spring
While my co-admin from the BML was here last week she got some great shots of the Brindle, doing what he does. Here are some of the best.

Jordyn & Stanley
Remember that little wonder of the conformation ring named Jordyn? I've featured her a few times as she's made her way in the show dog world. This time she's outdone herself, as reported below by her "Honey" aka her grandmother.
"Ok Jordyn kicked my butt again!!!
We went to a 3 day show where I showed Stanley the first day and Joe showed Stanley the second day. Neither one of us did any good with him. So out of the mouth of babies, we're sitting at the set up talking who ought to show Stanley on the third day and Jordyn puts her 2 cents in!!! Jordyn says "Honey you showed him the first day, Mr. Joe you showed him today it is only fair that I show him tomorrow."
Ok! We're talking about a 78 lb. male boxer!!! I told her would I have to think on it, she says "ok" and off she goes to walk dogs, get water and all she does at the show while Joe and I talk. I'm telling you folks this was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I let her show Stanley.
Not only did she win the class, Jordyn and Stanley went on to win reserve winners dog. This child never ceases to amaze me. She comes running out of the ring after she got RWD and says "See Honey I told you I could show him better then you and
Mr. Joe!"
Do you think I'm ever going to live this down? I'm sending pictures of Jordyn showing Stanley. The look on her face is priceless!!!"
My reply to this? Jordyn rocks!

Boxers of a Feather
Another bird and Boxer story.
"This is a picture of our cockatiel Niko with Peanut Brittle. We adopted Niko last year when he was 8 years old. His previous owner must have had dogs as every time he sees the dogs he says "Scooby Dooby Doo." He also must have been cuddly with them as he always wants to snuggle up to Peanut and Tank, and they have learned to leave him alone until we retrieve him, thus Peanut's look as if to say "get him before he's a toy." One thing the dogs have taught him is the sound they make when mouth wrestling. Whenever Niko wants attention he starts saying "Scooby Dooby Doo arrarrarrrarrarrar." Sometimes he mimics their sound so well we think the dogs are actually playing. :)"

Not Spring...
This week we've been having the kind of weather the Brindle is more used to in Canada. He doesn't mind the snow and with the company he has coming this weekend he wanted to offer up some warning of what's been going on around here along with some tips.

Lord of the Garden
Back to BML dogs today and I'm so pleased to have an update on one of my favourites. Dudley is 1/2 Boxer, 1/2 Old English Sheepdog and I just love him. Here's an update from his mom.
Dudley is enjoying his "retirement" in Florida, and has found a new vocation as Lord of the Garden. He loves to lay in the small grassy patch by my garden containers, even though there is plenty of space in other parts of the yard. Maybe he likes watching the tomatoes and herbs grow. Maybe it's because that spot has the best sun, or maybe he enjoys chasing the lizards. In any case, here are some rare photos of Duds scootching.
Seeing him on his back is a very, very rare thing - in the years I've had him, he hardly ever scootches or lays flat on his back. I'm pretty sure he would have failed that part of the Temperment Testing as a pup, but we'll never know because he came to me at age 2. I'm glad I could catch it on camera to share with you all.

Miss Molly, Busy Lady
Today is the last of my little series on Miss Molly Brown. Her mom tells us a little of how Molly is learning to be a good girl.
We took her to obedience classes once she was done with intensive
PT and at first she was the WORST student in the group. She yelled at
the other dogs, and jumped all over the instructors when they came to
see her. And she got so excited about going to obedience class that she
screamed in the car the whole way there! Still, she made huge progress,
and clearly adored everyone she met, and wanted to climb right onto
them so she could wash their whole face with kisses. After her second
set of obedience classes, she was the best student in the room,
intensely focused and picking up new things in a flash.
Learning to greet friendly strangers.
Graduation
Training for therapy dog work has mostly been
helping Molly learn to have more self control. She's thrilled to meet
people and go places, and very little scares her, but she doesn't
realize that charging up to people so she can love them might be a bit
intimidating. We do a lot of impulse control exercises, and practice
having patience around other dogs and people. We're still working on a
really solid "leave it" and supervised separation (3 minutes alone with a
stranger while her people are out of sight). She is a really willing
little dog, and spends all her time trying to please her people and show
us how sweet and funny she can be. It's great to have a dog who wants
to dress up and be fussed over, is small enough to pick up and snuggle,
but is also strong and sturdy enough to go for a long walk or play a
wild game of catch.
Girly girl!
She still has some issues with her leg if she plays
too hard or walks more than 5 miles. She's on a joint supplement and we
have a standing prescription for painkillers if she overdoes it. She's
still really brave, so we have to keep an eye on her to know when she
needs a painkiller-she never cries or fusses, just gets quiet and snorts
a bit when things hurt. We put heat packs on her leg if it seems stiff,
and keep her as active as possible without making her sore.
Her thundershirt (since you asked) is to help with
getting acclimated to new things. There will be all sorts of medical
and cleaning equipment on the therapy dog test, and we practice checking
out new things with the shirt, on, then take it off for her next
encounter with a "scary" vacuum cleaner. It's really helped shorten the
time it takes for her to become accustomed to new things, and she's
learning a lot about the world!
Rocking her Thundershirt
Working on sit & stay downtown
Our best guess is that she's a pit bull/boxer mix,
given her deep chest, narrow waist, and crazy underbite. She's also one
of the most vocal dogs I've ever met, and will tell you what she thinks
if dinner is late or something isn't just so. She likes puzzles and
searching for hidden treats, so we have a whole box of puzzle feeders
and other toys that we play with often. She's great at using her front
feet to work her puzzles, and she'll "punch" doors if they're not open,
and sometimes even smack her people in the shins if she thinks we're
teasing her! She's great with other dogs, and has helped us with
several more foster dogs since she arrived here, and adores people,
especially children.

Miss Molly, Coming Home
This is part one of two of the story of Miss Molly Brown, the Brindle's newest fan, as told by her "mom"
I got a call from the Humane Society of Western Pennsylvania just
after Thanksgiving 2011 to ask if I would be available to foster a young
pit bull mix named "Sissy" for at least 6 weeks. She needed hip
surgery, then a quiet place to recover where the people would be able to
enforce crate rest, do physical therapy with her 3-4 times per day, and
would be able to keep her on a strict medication schedule. I asked if I
could come meet the dog before committing to foster-I had some concerns
about getting her up and down our stairs, and she was the tiniest,
saddest little thing, only 28 pounds. Her back right leg just hung at
her side, and she was clearly in a lot of pain, but also desperate to be
loved. She was so intent on getting snuggles that she tipped over!
Of course I took her in, and over the next few weeks
we all fell in love with her, especially her new big brother, Axel. The
X-rays showed that she had been hit by a car, and needed to have the
whole ball of the ball/socket joint on her right hip removed. There
were some healed breaks in her femur and pelvis, which the surgeons
decided to leave as they were-she'd clearly been on the streets for
about a month after being hit, so the doctors focused on giving her the
best quality of life they could without re-breaking anything.
She was a nameless baby, since "Sissy" clearly
didn't fit, but shortly after surgery she showed her true colors.
Between tipping over a crate with herself inside it, and trying to get
up the stairs on her own within 48 hours of surgery, we knew we had a
really brave and determined little dog on our hands. Someone on the internet suggested that we name her after The Unsinkable Molly Brown, and it was
the perfect name. Before the 6 weeks were up, we knew she was staying
with us forever. Sending her back to the shelter for adoption was
totally unthinkable-she was already sleeping on the bed and bossing her
brother around, and it was all we could do to keep her from overstepping
the limits the vet set for her.

The Fan Club
As mentioned in a previous post the Brindle sometimes gets fan mail. Today I'm going to share a little more of that fan mail with you.
This time it's not from anydog on the BML although in fairness, as a Boxer X, Miss Molly Brown and her mom are more than welcome to join up with us. Our love of Doggie alone is enough to prove we don't discriminate.
I'll be telling Molly's story in the next couple of posts as I think it's one that should be shared and will most definitely be appreciated. For now I give you this:
Dear Max,
My mommy showed me your picture on her iPad today. She says you are a lot older than me, but I put my foot on the picture so she would know I wanted to chat. You’re really handsome! I am sending you a picture of me so you can see my big smile! I am very energetic and silly and like to play games. My favorite dog friends are all bigger than me-I am a very petite lady at only 39 pounds!
We aren’t sure about who my parents were, but we think I am maybe half boxer and half pit bull. Someone brought me to the humane society in Pittsburgh a while ago, and the people there found out that my leg was all broken. My mommy said she and daddy would foster me so I could recover from surgery, but then I told them that I would be staying! Now we have been a family for about a year. I would love to be your best lady dog friend!
Kisses,
Molly Brown

Ageless (part II)
The thing about Boxers is, if you don't tell them they are aging would they know?
