The Many Styles of Lucy

This report from our friend Lucy's Human:

As many of you know, we recently went through a rough spell with Lucy and allergies.  One trip to the vet, $150, and 3 different prescriptions, and Lucy is on the mend.  But, we've had to make some adjustments.  Lucy no longer goes outside without some type of protection between her beautiful spotted little belly and the grass- because that was the root of the problem.  So, every day, Lucy gets to pick out a new t-shirt!  I was sharing mine with her, but they seemed a little constrictive, so now she's borrowing Daddy's t-shirts.  I think she kinda likes her new look.

Of course, all of this is not without it's challenges, Daddy's t-shirts are a bit on the long side and her little wiggle bum gets stuck in them, so I've had to figure out a way to keep her little butt wiggling.  So, several times a day, she comes to me to be tied back up!  One good knot on her back and she's ready to wiggle again!

The t-shirts have given her rash a chance to heal, and she's no longer being exposed to the grass!  See there is a creative solution to everything, which is what boxer parenting is all about!  Where there is a will there is a way!

Remembering Hope (part II)

Here are the last of Hope's memorial photos.

Life was not too hard on her

She was always right there to offer kisses
She could even perform her imitation of "ET"

She was in heaven as a "lap dog"
This is the very last photo taken of our "Little Dog"

Remembering Hope (part I)

We recently received one of those sad emails on the BML. The ones that announce that one of own has gone on ahead, to wherever your particular beliefs assign. Shortly after that I received some photos of Hope asking that I post them in her memory. What follows are the words of Hope's "mom" and the first of those photos.

Her AKC name was Hope Springs Eternal however to us she was "Little Dog".  She bounded into our lives one winter evening in February 2005 at the age of 8 weeks and our lives have never been the same.  She brought back sunshine and laughter into our lives during a bleak period thus her name Hope.  She knew she was the queen of the universe and that the world revolved around her but she was kind to her subjects as they bestowed countless hugs and kisses through the years of her reign.  Even in the end, when the awful cancer had consumed her body and she was in pain, she bestowed final kisses on us to let us know it was okay.  She left us way to soon and there will forever be a big hole in our hearts and lives that can never be filled.

December 21, 2004 - October 12, 2012
She came to live with us in February 2005

She lived every second of her life with "Joie de Vivre"
Although mischievous at times she knew there was always going to be a present for her

She matured into a beautiful boxer lady

Sit... Stay...

Back before my wee vacation (the second one!) on the BML we were discussing how to get a whole family of Boxers in one photo. That led to my receiving the following.

"The statement about getting three or four dogs to sit in a line or stay in a spot you tell them to brought back memories when my son had four and I would bring my two. We could get them to stay anywhere we told them to.

The first photo is of three siblings that belonged to my son on a wall in San Francisco, they have all gone to play together at the rainbow bridge.

The second photo is at the dog park in Concord, Ca, lots of distractions. These five were all buddies and they are playing together at the rainbow bridge with all the other Burk kids.

Someday when we meet up again it will be fun to line up Star, Jewel, Jetta, Princess, Fancy, Bucky, Honey, Tiger, Sugar, Candy, Tank, Snowy, Peanut, and Champ!"

I hope there's a friends page for all of us to see that!

A Break in Bali

As most of my dedicated readers are aware I recently went on a dive trip to Bali. I haven't moved into the realms of underwater photography yet so the photos today are what I took while traveling around. Our dive club shares our photos with each other though so I'll have some underwater shots at a later date.

Enjoy!
Typical view from our dive boat

Lunch on the boat, noodles wrapped in banana leaves
Sunset from the resort where we had dinner our last night

A more traditional looking boat
The "French" boat, it made me laugh

Rice terraces in the countryside
A photo I took at our hotel just before we left

Maine Boxers (part III)

I'll be going off the grid for a bit and the Brindle is at camp. Before I go I wanted to bring you the last of Lexi's hunting expedition.

I'll try here again.
This is a promising hole.
Or here
If it would only show it's nose!
It doesn't matter, I will come back later and show everyone that I am "Lexi, the Great White Hunter"!

Maine Boxers (part II)

In our second look at that pack in Maine we get to see some hunting going on.

Lexi trying to sniff out the very wily and vicious chipmunk.

It has to be here somewhere!
Fenway helping?

Or here?
I know it is still here.

to be continued...

Maine Boxers (part I)

Part one of another three parter today. Our pack of friends from the US north east is introduced below.

"I have 4 boxers of my own.

The big brindle guy is Sam and he will be 10 in Feb.  The white girl with the floppy ears is Rose and she is 6.5 years.  The little fawn guy with only 3 legs is Fenway, and he is about 5.  The white girl with the pointy ears is Lexi, she will be 8 in Jan and is deaf. I have one hunter in the bunch, and it is Lexi, she is a "great hunter".

All are rescues, but only 3 show the appreciation that most rescue dogs do.  Rose was adopted at 10 weeks and obviously feels "entitled"."

Smartie

Today I'm happy to share with you the latest foster who will be moving on to the prison training program. Here's Smartie's story.

I am attaching a few pics of Bella and my current foster, Smartie a Scottish terrier.  Smartie is 4 years old and kept running away from home and the final time they refused to pay the fine to get him back!  He is a fantastic dog, handsome, intelligent, playful and lives with joy in his being.  He makes me laugh every day.  At meal time he has this twirling dance he does and since it is cooler now he likes to burrow under a blanket to take a nap.  It took Bella and Smartie a few weeks to figure out how to play together but they do play several times a day now.  In the first picture his coat had not been groomed for quite some time.  He went to the groomers 2 weeks ago and came home looking more like the Scottie he is.  He will be entering the prison training program in a few weeks and we will miss his joyful presence in the house.

Max and Nemo

Moving on from dogs in water to dogs on water. From Max and Nemo's mom:

These are pics of Max and Nemo on our last boat trip of the year last year. We normally head south towards the beach, but due to windy conditions we stayed in New York Harbor.

In the first picture I like to think that Maxine is whispering in Nemo's ear that she thinks Dad is heading the wrong way.

In the second pic Max has realized it's ok and we are just out for a ride.

In the third pic, Nemo is reassuring me with some love.
And in the fourth is the view of the New York skyline....it was an awesome afternoon.
