The Boxer Mailing List has been around for a long time. I have been on it for almost 16 years and yet I could almost be considered a newbie. Many long lasting friendships have been forged thanks to our little internet list. My favourite photo of the Brindle and I is one taken by my co-admin when she visited us in Europe.
Recently we lost one of our members. Her passing was sudden and quite unexpected. Another member sent me the following about a quilt she made and sent to Jackie's family.
*****
Jackie was my best friend, we met on the BML. Although we never met in person we talked on the phone two or three times a day, mostly about our dogs. We became very good friends, like sisters.
She was always there to talk or cheer me up on good and bad days. She understood when most people would not. We discussed how her dogs had gotten sprayed by a skunk (several times) and how Lakota would stare up in the sky at airplanes when they flew over. We talked about Kera (the outside dog) and Shilo (her Boxer). I wanted to give Jackie something from my heart so I started making this quilt four months ago. I made each dog from the description she told me of them while on the phone. I had never seen them or pictures of them. She mentioned to me one time that she would have liked to have her mother's quilt. That's why I decided to make this for her.
I am sorry she was never able to see the quilt or know of my surprise for her. However maybe someway or somehow she will know and that every stitch came from my heart.
Janet what a beautiful quilt and a beautiful tribute. Your love for Jackie shines through. I am teary eyed.
ReplyDeleteJanet, I have a feeling that Jackie has not only seen the quilt but now feels all the love that it represents! You are a good friend. It's beautiful.

Sniff..... that's amazing and I'm so glad she found such a great friend in you Janet!! We were/all crushed by her loss but I can imagine how hard this has been for you..... Amazing how close friends we can be without ever seeing each other!
ReplyDeleteTruly a gift from the heart, it is lovely. Your friendship with Jackie shines through with each stitch. I miss her quirky posts, she was such a dear lady and so often made me smile.

Janet that quilt is absolutely amazing, and I'm sure you're 100% right, she is looking down from Heaven smiling. I think of her often, and miss her just as often.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very pretty quilt and I am sure Jackie knows all about it!
ReplyDeleteThis brought a lump to my throat, Janet. You are always able to express yourself eloquently in words; however, I think you have outdone yourself in expressing your love for Jackie in this quilt. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.

Wow, Janet, that's a lovely quilt. When you mentioned making it, I immediately thought patchwork, I never imagined it was boxer (and pug x boston) related.
ReplyDeleteJackie would have been thrilled to get this. So very sad, that she won't. I do think that her family will love it and be a reminder of her love for dogs.
Janet the quilt is beautiful and I'm sure that Jackie has seen it, it's just so sad that she never got to curl up with it on the couch or bed. I too miss Jackie's posts and wit. It's amazing to me how with all you have been thru you you found the time and heart to make this quilt for Jackie. You are an amazing woman Janet.
ReplyDeleteWhen I heard about the quilt, I never imagined such a unique and special work of art--but then, it was made by Janet, one of the most creative people I have "met" through the wonders of the BML. Of course it is wonderful!
